RapidReader for Palm 4.0 help

RapidReader for Palm comes with a PC software called "RR to Palm".which is installed on your desktop when you download RapidReader for Palm. This program converts any document you wish from your PC to a RapidReader document for the Palm. Now it's easy to move all your documents to your Palm for accelerated reading. In addition you can also RapidRead Palm Docs, e-mail and attachments

When the program has finished installing, locate the "RRtoPalm" icon on your Desktop, and double-click on it to install RapidReader onto your Palm device.
PLEASE NOTE:
You can really get up to speed immediately, by using the 2 minute accelerated reading tutorial the first time you use RapidReader on your Palm-compatible handheld. It is displayed automatically the first time you run RapidReader. It will give you much better results and is far more efficient than simply increasing your speed a little at a time. And while you're increasing your speed you will also learn about all the things RapidReader can do for you.

In addition to the Tutorial, there is a chapter from a book, and other sample files installed on your Palm handheld so you can start reading right away.

Converting and transferring files from your PC to your Palm device.
Anytime you want to to auto format and move MS Word and other documents to your Palm as RapidReader transfer files, just double-click the "RRtoPalm" icon on your desktop.

 

This is the conversion utility will open when you click on the RR to Palm Icon. To find and load a file: for conversion:
Click on the Browse button then navigate to select a file to be converted.

You can convert and move the following file types:
• .doc - MS Word files • .rrd - RapidReader documents, saved in Windows RapidReader 4.0 • .rtf - Rich Text Format files • .txt - text files • .wpt - Word Perfect files • wri - Windows Write files

Browse to the desired file, click once on it and then click the Open button (or double-click on the filename).

The name of the file to be converted is then displayed along with a suggested title, which will be the name of the RapidReader document on the Palm. You can edit the title if you wish. The maximum length is 31 characters.

If you would like to preview the file before installing it on your Palm, click on the Preview button.

To convert the file, press the Convert button. The file will be added to the list of files to be installed when you next do a HotSync.

You will see your selections displayed in the "Files Converted So Far" dialog area

 

When you've made all your selections for conversion, click on the Done button.

A dialog box will be displayed with your Palm user name (or if you have multiple user names, you can select the which one you want). Click OK.

A second dialog (the Palm Install Tool) will then be displayed confirming the files that will be transferred.

Note:If you have a Palm-compatible device with an expansion card, you can choose to transfer the document to your expansion card by clicking the Change Destination button.

Then click the Done button.

Connect your Palm device to your PC and press the HotSync button. All the files you converted will be transferred to your Palm.

What can I read on my Palm Compatible handheld?
On your Palm-compatible handheld, you can RapidRead Palm Docs (Docs button), E-mail and attachments (Email button), and RapidReader documents (RRDocs button).
How do I choose the font size?
You can choose from 3 font sizes, for different lighting conditions. Use the Options menu in the scrolling "page view" window.

Reading the file using RapidReader on your Palm.
To access RapidReader:
Click on the RapidReader icon on your Palm Home Menu.

Once in the RapidReader application:
U se the buttons on the bottom of the screen to select one of three different types of material:

Docs- Palm DOC files, the de facto text format for the Palm
RRDocs - RapidReader documents, converted by the RRtoPalm program on a PC
Email - Inbox, Outbox and Draft folders (same as Palm Mail)

Files you convert and transfer from the PC will be in the RRDocs folder.
Tapping the RRDocs button will display the available files in a list format. (If you have an expansion card, tapping the RRDocs button a second time will display the available files on the expansion card.) To select a document, just tap on it.

How do I read from my memory expansion card?
You can read Palm Docs and RR Docs directly off of an expansion card if you have one installed. Use the View menu to switch between Main Memory or Expansion Card

How do I change reading speed?
To adjust your reading speed between 100 and 800 words per minute while RapidReading, use the hardware page up/down buttons below the screen. Each press of the Page Up key increases your reading speed by 25 wpm; each press of the Page Down key decreases your reading speed by 25 wpm. You can view your speed and how much you've read at the bottom of the screen while RapidReading.

How do I pause when RapidReading?
While RapidReading, click either of the two buttons on either side of the page Up/Down keys to pause RapidReader. Click either button again to resume RapidReading.

How do see the text in page view?
Tap anywhere on the screen to return to the "page view" scrolling text window, which will display the section of the document you were reading as a page of text. Tap on Done to return to the list of files,

How do I resume reading from where I stopped?
When the "page view" of the document is displayed. Tap on [ Resume ] in the right half of the menu bar area to start reading either at the beginning (for a new document) or where you left off last time. You can also scroll to a new word and "double tap to begin reading from this new place.

How do I move to a new section of the document?
When paused in "page view" you can use the hardware page up/down keys to navigate to a different portion of the document.

Or you can use the "Go To" item at the bottom of the page view window. Tap on this item and enter a page number using Graffiti or the numerical keyboard. Tap on "OK" and you will be taken to that page.
Note: RapidReader uses 280 words as a "page" to correspond to an average page of a paper book. This is approximately 4 screens on a Palm device. Once you have selected a page number, navigate within the page using the scrollbars to go to the word where you wish to begin.

How do I begin reading from the new section I've moved to?
Double-tap on any word on the screen to start reading from that point.

How do I write and attach notes to the document?
Tap on the screen to reveal the page view window. Tap on the "Note" item at the bottom of the screen. Write your note using Graffiti or the keyboard. Click "Done" the note is attached to that section of text with a note marker number. {n001}.

How do I read my notes?
There are two ways to read a note. When you review the document in RapidReader you will see a note marker indicating that you have attached a note to that section. It will appear in the upper corner of the RapidText screen e.g. {n001}

To read a note.
1) Tap on the screen to pause in "page view" and then tap on the note marker. The note will appear in a separate window.
2) Tap on the screen to pause in "page view" and then tap on "RapidReader" on the menu bar. This will reveal an item called "Notes". Tap and you will see a window called "My Notes". Tap on any note then "OK" to read it. Note: you can also go to the place in the document where that note is attached by Tapping on "Go To Text" at the bottom of the note window.

How do I save my notes?
Notes are automatically saved when you close a RapidReader document. You can delete notes by selecting the note (see above) then pressing the delete button on the bottom of the note window.
