About the Help Files
RapidReader for the Mac OS X platform has the same features and functionality as RapidReader on other platforms. However the methods of calling a particular function will vary from platform to platform. These help topics are focused on the areas that are Mac OS X specific. Installing RapidReader for Mac:
Below are some instructions for downloading the software, installing, creating the RapidReader alias for your desktop.

After you click on the download Mac OSX selection

The installer will be downloaded as "Installer.tar"
Double-Click on the installer icon
The installer will be opened with "Stuffit Expander" into a folder labeled "RapidReader6 Installer Folder"

The folder will contain an item labeled RR6_Meta.mpkg. This is the installer package
Double-Click on the Meta.mpkg icon
The installer will open and place RapidReader 6 in the Applications folder

Once you've installed RapidReader, you'll want to create a Desktop RR Icon for convenience
Go to the Applications Folder on your hard drive
Single-Click on the RapidReader 6 icon.
On the Finder Menubar Click on "File / Make Alias"
This will place an Alias icon in the Applications folder. Drag the RR Alias Icon onto the Desktop


Opening Text Files

To open a text (.txt) file using Drag and Drop.

Single Click and Hold down the Mouse
Drag the file Icon onto the RapidReader Desktop icon

Or

Launch RapidReader and select FILE>OPEN and browse to the text file.


Opening A Microsoft Word file in RapidReader

When you installed RapidReader it added a button directly onto the MS Word interface. It is located to the far right of the tool bar.

Click on the RapidReader button and the document will open in RapidReader.

(PLEASE NOTE: Sometimes the RapidReader button may be hidden. On the end of the tool bar, Click on "More Buttons" and select Customize Toolbar. Then select RapidReader from the dropdown list.)


Opening A Safari Web Page in RapidReader

When you installed RapidReader it added a Service to the Safari browser.

Click and Drag to Select the text you wish to open in RapidReader (or Cmd+A for the entire page)

On the Safari item on the menu bar select "Services"

Select Rapid Read Selection.

RapidReader will launch. Scroll down to where you wish to begin reading and double click on a word to begin.


Using RapidReader in Other Browsers

RapidReader can be used with any browser by using the Select / Copy function.

Click and Drag to select text within the browser window.

OR

Select All (Cmd+A) and Copy (Cmd+C)

Double click on the RapidReader Desktop Icon to Launch RapidReader.

Click in the Window and press (Cmd+V) to Paste the text.

OR

Select FILE>OPEN FROM CLIPBOARD

The text you selected will appear in ParagraphView. Double Click on any word to begin.

TIP: To streamline opening several pages in in a row; MINIMIZE RapidReader to the dock.


Using TextEdit With RapidReader

TextEdit documents by default are either saved as .rtf files or as MS Word .doc files. RapidReader does not natively parse .rtf so the file must be opened in Word or converted to a text (.txt) file.

To convert to a text file in TextEdit select Format>Make Plain Text. This will create a .txt version of the file. Save the file.

Drag and Drop the file onto the RapidReader Icon.

RapidReader Mac Menu and Tool Bar
The RapidReader Menu Bar and Tool Bar for Mac, although slightly different in appearance are identical in function to the RapidReader versions for Windows. To find out how to use the features and functions go to ParagraphView Menu Bar .

Setting Your Font and Text Position Options

You can from a variety of options to customize your view for the greatest comfort.

On the Menu Bar select OPTIONS>Location. Select Top to Bottom.

On the Menu Bar select OPTIONS>Font Proportion. To select the Size of the TurboView Font.

On the Menu Bar select OPTIONS>Fonts To select a font for TurboView, ParagraphView and Notes.
