RAPIDREADER TEXT DISPLAY SELECTED
FOR INTERNET 2 NATIONAL EVENT
October
31, 2002
The patented
RapidReader accelerated reading software, was chosen as the
text display technology for the Internet 2 Fall Performance
Event. Internet 2 is the organization of more than 190 Universities
and dozens of major corporations currently developing a new
ultra fast Internet designed to connect educators, schools
and research institutions. The event, a gathering of technologists,
researchers, education experts and university officials creating
the cutting edge of technology for the future of education,
was held this week at the University of Southern California.
In a stage performance at the USC Bing Theatre showcasing
the capabilities of the Internet 2 network for use in education,
research, the arts and collaborative science, RapidReader
displayed information to the audience, in text 3 feet high
and at speeds up to 350 words per minute, about the performances
taking place on stage.
RapidReader was also used onstage in a unique multimedia performance
of a scene from Shakespeare's Julius Caesar. RapidReader displayed
each word synchronized in time to the actors speech, giving
the audience the ability to simultaneously read, listen and
watch the performance of the play.
"It was a very exciting event to participate in, particularly
for the first time RR is used to render information to a large
audience in a theatre. Now we feel we have accelerated reading
products for the full range of electronic text display, from
very small screens of mobile phones with our new RapidReader
Mobile to large format for conferences and meetings and even
public information." said Peter McIan CEO of SoftOlogy
IdeaWorks.
The focus of the Internet 2 is on applications to empower
efficient, collaborative learning in K-12 schools, Universities
and research centers.
Tom Crosley, Chief Software Architect for SoftOlogy said "One
of the main challenges today is to cope with information overload.
No matter how fast information is delivered over a network,
someone still has to read it and absorb it. RapidReader was
created as a way to use the computer to help people use the
information more efficiently."
RapidReader is available
for all versions of Windows/NT, Palm, EPOC 5 and Symbian mobile
phones.
Version 2.0 of the RapidReader TrainSet Authoring Tools for
educational and corporate materials will be available Q1 of
2003.

One member of the overflow audience summed it up by saying,
"It's amazing., When I was reading the information I
wasn't even aware I was reading that fast. It just seemed
natural."
