Spend Less Time Keeping up with your Business Reading and Professional Journal Articles:

Most business and professional people spend a great deal of their time trying to keep up with all of their "must" reading. This is the critical information you need to stay current in your job and in your industry. In today's work place, the ease of electronic distribution has had the effect of loading more reading into the work week. The good news is, that because the material is distributed electronically, you can now use RapidReader to cut your reading time to a fraction. That means that instead of printing it out and lugging it home, the software can help you spend less time reading and more time putting that information to good use. Of course anything you can read in RapidReader you can also annotate and Highlite in RapidReader. This will make short work of later review for meetings or reports.

Every day, more and more professional Journals and business publications are being put online. Some are these are subscription or fee based, others are free. Below is the address for the Stanford "Highwire" project which lists most online medical and scientific journals.

In this example:
You're going to open a Journal Article from an online resource in RapidReader
RapidRead the article
Place Notes, Markers or Highlites into the text of the article
Save the document and your markup to your computer as a RapidReader file to read offline

NOTE: Many of the journals are formatted as HTML web pages. With one click you can read these in RapidReader directly from Internet Explorer. Other online journals are only available in PDF format. These can be downloaded and then converted with RapidReader PRO*.

To read and save online journal articles in RapidReader:

  1. Access the journal site as normal and navigate to an article

  2. In Internet Explorer Click on the RapidReader Icon on the tool bar. This will open the page in RapidReader ParagraphView.

    NOTE: If you are using other browsers please see Troubleshooting in the Help Files

  3. If the page has navigation items and advertising that you don't want to read; scroll down to the beginning of the content of interest

  4. Double-click on the word where you want to begin RapidReading

  5. To save the article and any User-Notesor Highlites Highliter Icon on the ParagraphView Tool Baryou've placed go to FILE > SAVE AS on the RR ParagraphView menubar

  6. NOTE: If you receive a "text not found", "clipboard failed" or "unable to parse text" message during this process you will need to click on the "printer friendly version" of the web page. From there you can follow the instructions above or simply Click on the RapidReader button on the toolbar to open the page in RR. Alternatively you can press CTL+A then CTL+C and FILE>read from clipboard in RapidReader.

Streamline Creating a Market Research Report Using RapidReader

With RapidReader you can streamline much of your work and literally cut hours off the time it takes to create a paper from your research on the Internet or through corporate materials.

Aside from the reading speed advantage, when you open a web page, PDF or other file in RapidReader save them as RapidReader files to your desktop. This means that after you've gathered the content you can later use RapidReader to review them for useful material.

With RapidReader's markup tools you can add your own Notes directly into the RapidReader file as well as Highlite text of interest. Then you can copy your Notes and easily extract quotes using the Highliter tool to paste directly into your paper.

With RapidReader you have a fast, efficient, flexible format to put the materials you need, from research to writing right at your fingertips.

What's more, you can then accelerate the proofreading and editing process.

In this example:
you're going to gather together the core information and save it offline to a project folder
Then create a "master document" for your research material
Then use the Notes and Highliter tools in RapidReader for the excerpts you wish to use in your paper
Export your Notes and excerpts to a text file to paste into your report

To create a research paper using RapidReader:

NOTE: If you receive a "text not found" message during this process you will need to click on the "printer friendly version" of the web page. From here you can Click on the RapidReader button on the toolbar in Internet Explorer to open the page in RR. For more information regarding opening web pages in browsers other than Internet Explorer please click here. Click here for information about opening web pages in RapidReader from other browsers

  1. Access a web page. In Internet Explorer Click on the RapidReader Icon on the tool bar. This will open the page in RapidReader.

  2. On the RapidReader menubar Click on File > Save As a RapidReader file (.r2d) to your desired folder or the desktop.

    NOTE: Method 2 If the page has navigation items or advertising that you don't want to appear in RapidReader

  3. In the browser, select the story portion you want, "Click and drag" in the page over the desired text .

  4. On the browser menubar Go to Edit / Copy (CTL+C) to copy the content on the clipboard

  5. Open RapidReader by Double-clicking on the RapidReader Desktop icon.

  6. In the RapidReader window click Paste (ctrl+V). This will place the text in RapidReader.

  7. Proceed with Step 2 above.

    Now you have opened and saved the page as a RapidReader file:

  8. To save any User-Notesor Highlites Highliter Icon on the ParagraphView Tool Baryou've placed in the RapidReader file go to FILE > SAVE ASThe Save Icon on the ParagraphView Tool Baron the RR ParagraphView menubar

  9. You can also save all your Notes and Highlites as a separate text file to paste directly into the body of the paper you're writing. (For more information, please see Using Notes and Highliter)

Make Collaboration More Efficient by Using RapidReader as a "Group Ware" Environment.

Circulating a RapidReader file among colleagues is a major time-saving tool that benefits every stage of the collaborative process. With it a team can quickly read, review and share relevant content. Adding comments as the document circulates is easy with the Notes feature. Text can be Highlited for emphasis or extracted to use as "pull quotes". As the project nears completion RapidReader becomes a powerhouse for proofreading and final editing.

  2. Make and append any comments with User-Notes or Highlite text

  3. SaveThe Save Icon on the ParagraphView Tool Baryour Notesand Highlites Highliter Icon on the ParagraphView Tool Barin the document as a RapidReader (.r2d) file (FILE > SAVE AS on the RR ParagraphView menubar)

  4. You can attach the RapidReader file (.r2d) for circulation to an email

  5. Your colleagues can then add User Notes, edit your Notes and Highlite text. This markup will stay with the RapidReader file as it circulates.

Use RapidReader to Review Contracts and Add Annotation Markup When Time is Money

Whether you're in negotiations or reviewing legacy documents to "come up to speed" for a new client , contracts and business agreements can be very time consuming to read and annotate. The specificity required in these agreements means that they can run to hundreds of pages. The importance of the document language accurately reflecting the mutual understanding of terms has significant ramifications for your business. Consequently, reviewing and revising from a paper copy or even a word processor document is a laborious and exacting process.

Now, with any electronic document, you can use the power of the computer to accelerate your reading and annotating with RapidReader. You can create "User-Notes" and Highlited text to record your changes and then easily embed them in the original document or copy.

To quickly review and annotate a contract or business document:

  1. Open the file in RapidReader (please see help files This is the Help Icon on the ParagraphView Tool Barfor instructions about the best method for you)

Use RapidReader to Prepare for Meetings and Presentations. Memorizing has never been easier.

Problem: You need to create a quick way to refresh your memory just before you walk into a meeting
Solution: Use RapidReader to build a RapidReview "crib sheet" from your business notes

Here's another great way to use RapidReader when it comes time to do that last minute review for meetings and presentations. You can create a "crib sheet" using RapidReader to brief yourself at high speed with the information you'll need. Because RapidReader assists you to read at several times the average speed, you'll be able to to get more repetitions of the required information just prior to walking into the room and keep it fresh in your mind. You can easily build a RapidReview document from your own notes or excerpts from the text of web pages, PDF's and business materials.

In this example:
you're going to gather together the core information you want to remember from your sources.
Then create a "crib sheet" in a single document containing your review information.
Then once you're satisfied with your notes you will "COPY/PASTE" the entire sequence multiple times into the same document
Then open the document in RapidReader add any further comments or Highlites and save it as a RapidReader file.

Now you have a high speed "drill sheet" will multiple repetitions of your notes to blast through and lock in the information you need. Remember, that at RapidReader speeds you can get many exposures to the material in the same time it would typically take you to read it just once with traditional methods. Then if you wish, you can Highlite text or add Notes to your RapidReview document. Now you've got a powerful accelerated quick-study on your laptop computer.

To build a RapidReview prep sheet with multiple repetitions of the material:

  1. From your word processor or other source applications select the material you want to use for review.

  2. Paste these into a separate Word or text document. To this, add any text from other electronic class materials that you wish

    When you've created the complete sequence of materials you want available...

  3. Select All (CTL+A) then Copy (CTL+C) then Paste (CTL+V) the entire review sequence at the end of the first sequence to create a repetition.

  4. Do this for as many repetitions as you'd like. Then Save the document as a Word (.doc) or text (.txt) file

  5. Open the Document in RapidReader (for more info about opening documents please click here)

  6. Add any User-Notesor Highlited Highliter Icon on the ParagraphView Tool Bartext to your crib sheet.

  7. SaveThe Save Icon on the ParagraphView Tool Barthe document in RapidReader format (File>Save as .r2d)

Use RapidReader PRO in Outlook to quickly review email correspondence and history

Problem: You need to create a summary of legacy email correspondence for a deposition, sales call or client review
Solution: Use RapidReader PRO to open entire folders of email and attachments with one click

Most of us spend a lot of time reading email. It's estimated that up to 2/3's of the email in a corporate environment isn't relevant to the recipient. Never-the-less we still click to open, read a bit then click to close. All that opening and closing is a real time waster. That's particularly true if you have to review hundreds of emails from customers or clients. Here's another great way to use RapidReader to save time on regular information tasks. RapidReader is directly integrated into the tool bar of Outlook. You can use RapidReader to create a single document from an entire folder of email and attachments and read them literally in a fraction of the time it would normally take you.

In this example:
You're going to create a "client history" folder in Outlook
Then create a single RapidReader file by concatenating the entire folder
Then use the Notes and Highliter features to comment and excerpt from the emails and attachments
Then prepare a summary document for review

To build a correspondence summary using RapidReader:

  1. In Outlook create a folder with the correspondence you wish to summarize.

  2. Open the folder in Outlook and Select All (ctrl+A)

  3. On the Outlook Tool Bar click on the RapidReader Add-In Item (for more information on add-ins please click here)

    This will open the entire folder of email in RapidReader. Double click on any word to being reading

  4. When in RapidReader you can press the "N" key to skip to the next email or the "A" key to go to an attachment.

  5. Use the Notefeature for commentary, the "Dog-Ear"The Dog-Ear Icon on the ParagraphView Tool Barfeature to mark places in the email stream and the Highliter Highliter Icon on the ParagraphView Tool Barfeature to emphasize selections you want to excerpt.

  6. SaveThe Save Icon on the ParagraphView Tool Barthe document in RapidReader format (File>Save as .r2d) with your markup attached.
