Opening
a Document in RapidReader |
|
| There are
several ways to open a document in RapidReader.
You can open RapidReader directly from within
selected applications, or by dragging
a document onto the RapidReader desktop icon or
by browsing from within RapidReader. |
|
| |
|
The RapidReader Desktop
Icon |
|
| 1) |
Drag a document
of a supported file type directly onto the
RapidReader desktop Icon. These include
.doc, .txt, .r2d, .txv, and PDF documents
(RapidReader Pro only). |
| 2) |
For
MS Word and Internet Explorer, RapidReader,
places an item directly on the toolbar for
easy access. Click on the item and RapidReader
will open from within the application. |
| 3) |
Launch
RapidReader from the desktop icon,
then use File/Open on the menu bar.
You can browse to supported file types and
open them directly in RapidReader. |
| 4) |
From
Browsers, Word Processors and other applications
not directly supported by RapidReader you
can still open the contents. You can copy
(CTL+C) a document to the clipboard. Launch
RapidReader and select File/Open
and then Read from Clipboard. This
will import the text into RapidReader. |

Overview: |
|
|
When you first open
a document in RapidReader it defaults to the "ParagraphView".
This is a "read only" display very similar to the
familiar look and feel of a standard page of a word
processor document. You can scan the text or scroll
through the document as you would with a word processor. But
unlike a word processor, any word on any page is
an active link to launch the TurboView allowing
you to RapidRead from anywhere in the document.
In a sense , RapidReader is a combination of a document
viewer and a video player. As you can see from the
menubar and toolbar both kinds of functions are
represented. The menubar is essentially used for
document handling and setting your options and preferences.
The toolbar functions are more like video player
controls for moving through a file as well as displaying
information related to your progress and reading
speed. (Please see ParagraphView: MenuBar and functions
or ParagraphView: ToolBar and
functions for complete use information)
In
addition to a familiar document format, the ParagraphView
is a "map" to navigate to the text where you want
to accelerate your reading. |
|
|
|
|
| Using Markup to Review or Navigate
through a document |
| The
ParagraphView also shows where you've placed your
personal User-Notes, Dog-Ear markers and it's
where you can access the Highlite text tool.
(For more information please see Using
the Note, Dog-Ear and Highliter features.)
|
Average Reading Speed on a computer drops
to just about 100 words per minute because we repeatedly
lose our place when scrolling. The
fact is, that our brains can process than we can read
it, using conventional means. |
|
|
| NOTE: When
you are RapidReading, the ParagraphView is always available
to you by simply pressing the Space Bar or Double-clicking
any where in the TurboView. This is the equivalent of pressing
the "STOP" button on a video player. |
